This Devil’s Night, we’ll have the opportunity to witness an exorcism on live television.
“Exorcism: Live!” will air from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST the night before Halloween on Discovery Communications’ “Destination America” channel. The exorcism will be conducted on a house, not on a person.
The St. Louis house is allegedly the site of an exorcism performed in the 1940s on a teenage boy known as “Roland Doe.” The boy’s alleged possession inspired William Peter Blatty to write the 1971 horror novel The Exorcist.
Jodi Tovay, who developed the show, told the WSJ she has witnessed demonic activity firsthand. Tovay claims that when she was a teenager, her chaperone on a church mission trip to Mexico exhibited signs of possession, swearing and contorting his body. Tovay says her youth pastor performed an exorcism on the man.
The first hour of the special will focus on the context and the history of the house and the alleged original exorcism. There will also be a “ghost hunt” conducted by the “Tennessee Wraith Chasers” who star in the television show “Ghost Asylum.” There will be streaming cameras placed throughout the house and the audience will be able to engage live through social media.
Psychic and reality television star Chip Coffey will conduct a séance in the second hour leading up to the grand finale: a live exorcism of the house. James Long, archbishop of the United States Old Catholic Church and no stranger to reality television himself, will be performing the exorcism.
What do you think we’ll see at this live exorcism?
